VoxPro has announced 43 new jobs at its multilingual call center in Cork. It Works!, an American multinational that provide skin care and nutrition products, is part of the list of Voxpro partners.

The American football team of Cork, the Admirals organized a flash mob on Grand Parade on Saturday 24th January. They arrived fully dressed as American football players and surprised the people in the street. This marketing operation has been made to promote the Superbowl party by the Cardinals that will take place at the Dolphin RFC on the night of the big game, on Sunday, 2nd February.
The shoppers and the pedestrians looked really surprised and amused by this improvised show, some of them even played with the team and tried to score touchdowns and to put some tackles.
Admirals president Stuart Donaldson said the surprise performance brought back some interest in a club that has gained more and more popularity in the past years. The club had returned in August 2013 after years of inactivity. “We had gone through a transitional period where a lot of the older players had moved on and we didn’t have enough players to compete. Last season we put a mostly rookie team together and made it to the IAFL-1 (Irish American Football League) Bowl final,” he said.

The American biotechnology and pharmaceutical company ABEC has announced its plan to hire 100 new staff in its centre in Fermoy, County Cork. The recruitment will be phased over the next two years. The new project will produce equipment for biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes for the international market.
The 100 new jobs are expected to cover all company departments including management, engineering, manufacturing, services and business development staff.
Scott Pickering, CEO of ABEC, said: “The Fermoy facility will increase our capacity and allow us to better support our growing customer base in Ireland and Europe. We sincerely appreciate the support of the IDA as we establish our unique capabilities in Ireland."
Cork Airport has launched a new flight tracking function in their application. Thanks to this new feature, when users click on the flight number they will know directly where the aircraft is at all times.
Cork Airport has claimed to be the first in the world to offer this feature. Flight tracking lets you know the aircraft route, speed, type of aircraft, altitude and distance to destination.
“To be the first airport in the world to introduce this innovative feature is a fantastic achievement and is a further example of Cork Airport’s commitment to providing a world-class customer experience for every passenger using the airport,” said Kevin Cullinane, head of communications, Cork Airport.
Additionally this new free app provides updated schedule of bus arrivals and departures, arrivals and departures information, car park book, integrated maps and details of all shops and restaurants in the terminal 1. Besides, it provides information about the weather at the Cork airport as well as live weather reports for all destinations.

Cork begins the year opting for the prestigious title of European Green Capital in 2017. Essen, Istanbul, Lisbon, Porto, Cascais, Nijmegen,'s-Hertogenbosch and Pécs are some of the cities that compete with Cork for this title.
The European Green Capital Award recognizes cities with the best environment and living environment of its inhabitants. The city that holds the award serves as a model for other cities and aims to promote improvements in the quality of life for millions of people.
So far seven cities have this award. Copenhagen is the current holder; Bristol will do the honours in 2015 and finally take over Ljubljana in 2016. The date chosen for selecting the winner city will be the June 2015 in Bristol, UK. Fingers crossed!

Irish technology company, Xanadu, announced the creation of 120 new jobs in Cork. In addition, the company established its headquarters in the city.
Xanadu provides technical services to companies like Matchbook.com, a leading sports betting business. The company, founded in 2011, helps to manage massive amounts of data created in the business, using this information to identify partners and analyse consumer trends.
Its expansion into international markets has grown the company, which started with only 8 employees, in which 100 people currently work. Blackpool has been chosen to set the Xanadu headquarters.
The Irish Prime Minister, Enda Kenny, officially announced the creation of 120 jobs and also used to highlight the start of construction of an office block in Albert Quay in Cork.

SimpliVity, a US company, has announced the creation of 70 new jobs in Cork. With this facility the company plans to cover Europe, the Middle East and African markets. SimpliVity is a company founded in 2009 and based in Massachusetts dedicated to data storage and to provide hyperconverged infrastructure.
It remains to decide the new headquarters of the company, Mahon or Cork City Center are the two possibilities. The selection process of new employees is already open and over the next three years the company will gradually create 70 new jobs.
Randy Boutin, vice president of global services, said: "We continue to experience strong growth due to the rapid transition of our customers to the software defined infrastructure. We are delighted to have the opportunity to build on our Cork operations center and help boost the local economy. "

The 59th Cork Film Festival will take place from the 7th to the 16th of November. The festival's creative director, James Mullighan says that "The Cork Film Festival is " Movies. Music. Ideas ". The festival is held at the Cork Opera House, Triskel Christchurch and the Gate Cinema.
In the last year, the program attracted more than 100 events, included in the 80 reproductions of films were 25 documentaries, 20 short films as well as 10 special events.
The program is a mix of photography exhibitions, world cinema, independent films, shorts and documentaries from around the world. The festival is considered one of the best showcases of Irish cinema.
The festival this year has added a new award category "Spirit of the Festival Award" where six movies of several origins are involved including Irish, Spanish, British, Ukrainian, Swiss and Nepali.
